Yea that sounds like a stuck button. If not that then the solenoid is stuck
engaged.

I've upgraded all the sorts of things on my 96 (Progressive Shocks and

When I pushed the starter button the bike started but a whirring noise came
from above the clutch. I tried to shut off the bike but it stayed on.

That's not the stator. The stator is part of the alternator system.
Sounds like your starter solenoid may be sticking. Does it keep doing it
even after you switch the key all the way off?
Also, does your starter switch rebound like it's supposed to? I've had my
physical switch get stuck before,
The bike shuts off with the key. Then the bike starts when I turn the key on.
Is the starter button stuck? I never looked. I'm already at work. I won't get
back to the bike till Wednesday. Thanks though. I hope that is all it is.
