You need to measure the voltage in your battery. I had a battery recently
that will charge and show good voltage until I pressed the star button, the
voltage will immediately drop. Your voltage should be ~12.6V for a good
start.

“click click” means that things are trying to work. keep the battery charging
for a while and try again. verify that the cells in the battery are filled up
properly.

If you are 5'7" I would recommend seating on the bike and making sure you
can "walk it", which is, that you are able to push the bike around with
your legs (no engine). If you can't flat foot then it is easier to loose
your balance while getting adjusted to the bike and power of the bike,
Sorry, I mean, 5'7''

Ck your ground cable where it bolts to the engine / frame
Take it off and clean it
Ck for voltage at the solenoid
One side will be hot all the time the other will be hot when cranking

SO!...I had the new battery tested at Sears and it tested GOOD on 200 CCAs
I am preparing to re-install the battery with the tender leads so I am going to
put the leads between the battery terminals and the +/- wiresassuming that
is the best way, right?

My first bike is a 1996 Nighthawk 750. I have been commuting daily on my
bike for the past 8 years and have put over 70,000 miles on the bike. In
the past 8 years I've only had to have it towed once and that was about a
month ago do to an electrical problem. I've replaced the starter once
Here is irrefutable evidence that you can indeed ride a 750 Nighthawk
across the country with no problems.
