[Nighthawk Lovers] Re: Germany

2017-02-07 Thread EGrider
I've taken Ol' Yeller into Canada 3 times in the past 2 years. The first
time, when I was crossing from Washington state into British Columbia, I
got to the booth and handed my passport to the agent, and she said, "Who's
this?" I had brought my daughter's passport! But I always carry a photocopy
of my passport in my wallet when I travel, so she accepted that! (She said
she would make a special exception.) Nobody cares about vehicles.

About the insurance, I'd never thought about it. Maybe I wasn't covered.

Lately I've been reading about taking bikes into Mexico. You can still get
into the border area with no passport check at all, but they say that once
you get in to the 14-mile checkpoint, you now need to show proof of
insurance. I drove a Buick to Veracruz back in the 70's, and I don't think
we insured it at all.

I continue to contemplate my motorcycle trip to Patagonia. Anybody want to
take a ride of a lifetime?

I don't know about Americans, but I do took my passport when I crossed to
go to Montreal. No one looks at paperwork for the vehicles as far as I
know. In fact, when I came back I realized that my registration was expired
and no one cared about it.

2017-02-06 Thread Kyle Munz
And I don't drink Coffee... but I'm sure we'll figure something out :)
August can get 100F+ with 100% humidity. Mix that with the very real
possibility of getting stuck in gridlock traffic (even on weekends) around
Houston and I pretty much keep my bike garaged for that month. It's not
impossible though if you can keep moving, but that's the trick.
Banff is absolutely beautiful. I had to go to Calgary for work a few years
ago and the wife and I made a mini-vacation out of it and went up to visit
Banff. The scenery is unbelievable up there around Lake Louise and Lake
Morraine. A few hours north of there around Jasper is where you can go out
and walk on a glacier. The glacier is neat, but the drive up there is
absolutely amazing. I was in a rented Dodge SUV something or other but I
was jealous as hell of all the motorcycles riding up through those twisty
mountain roads with lots of greenery and frigging waterfalls every few
miles. I spent more time looking out the windows going "holy crap look at
that!" than I did paying attention to the road, maybe it's best I wasn't on
2 wheels.
