The stator side test shows 0.4.
Let me know what i should test next - unless this is a telltale of some

The bike starts right up no problem.
By the way it's acting, it might be the regulator/rectifier not
 charging the battery.
I would like to ask if you guys have any recommendations on a

 Thank you in advance.

Re: [Nighthawk Lovers] Charging/Electrical Issue

2019-12-10 Thread Darin Hatton
Hi Jenya
Good to hear your charging system is working. That is a good test to do
to see what is going into battery. If its putting too much charge into
battery it can be cooked.
As far as auto store testing batteries, they will put a load on it and
see how voltage drops. I have used AGM batteries in my bikes and have had
good results. They are a gel battery instead of liquid acid type. No vent
hose, no spills, sealed and much more cold cranking amps. Got mine at
batteries + bulbs . About 100 bucks each here in ohio

Thanks guys - I did start a bike and when reviving the voltmeter shows 14 v or

And how do they test the batteries in the store? Thanks all!

Hi Jenya,
The easiest way for me to see what the charging system is doing is to set
multi meter to D C volts, put lead on battery with bike running. Should
show 12 + volts at idle and about 14.5 volts at about 5k rpms.

I have followed the steps in the manual - my regulator reads 1 when I touch

The stator side test shows 0.4.

bike on and off for quite a few times). Well the battery that was fully
charged when leaving the house would drop down to 11V and the bike would
 not start.
The bike starts right up no problem.
By the way it's acting, it might be the regulator/rectifier not
 charging the battery.
I would like to ask if you guys have any recommendations on a
replacement part that is a more modern (maybe two in one)?
 Thank you in advance.
 Jenya

Check the battery too, an internal issue can cause rapid discharge. Cheaper
to replace also.

There are steps in the shop manual for testing the R/R, it should be tested
before just being replaced. If it does test bad I think we all pretty much
agree that Rick's has the best replacement parts.
