Re: [Nighthawk Lovers] Re: Brake Caliper Piston Mystery

2018-02-20 Thread Dwayne Wells
I upgraded the front calipers on my 02 Monte Carlo to F-Body (Camaro) brakes
several years ago. They are dual piston vs the OEM single piston model.
Basically, increasing the the piston size, or number of them translates to
firmer faster breaking as the fluid can be displaced faster and easier.

There ya go! At first, I suspected this might have been an upgrade of sorts.
Larger pistons should translate to a more responsive front brake in theory but
not if only on of them was replaced and may have made it worse because the
system was not balanced. Any chance you have the old pads? I suspect the pads
on the larger piston caliper would have been worn more as they may have been
activating sooner.

Congrats in figuring it out 👍

Confirmed. Guess I could have looked more closely at the calipers because the
size is cast into the caliper. 30mm on the right and 3mm on the left. Guess
someone made the swap somewhere along the way.

pistons on this bike are 32 or 30 mm? Its possible a previous owner (there
have been at least a couple) may have installed a different caliper, but on
only one side of the bike? Am I missing something? Thanks!
