I was perusing the net and found that Google has
some pubicly available DNS servers.

After ping their IPs and my DNS IPs (even 4.2.2.2 ) the ping
times are slower using the google
I'm not certain how you'd time it for sure, but I've been using them for
about 2 weeks and they're faster than charters ever were for me, plus I
don't get search pages if I typo a url.

regarding the UM175 indicates that it works fine with linux and a wvdial
configuration.
