Thank you very much.
I switched to the appropriate NVIDIA driver and the system works fine
with it.

I don't think there will be a fast fix of the problem.
I did install the NVIDIA driver. The problem disappeared.
I'd loved to stay with the nouveau driver anyway!
Thanks for your effort.

Just a precision. It seems that the password is accepted and the screen
turn to "black" for a second. After then it returns to the login
screen. It doesn't give a message as for a wrong password.
Sorry, I didn't give a comprehensible description.

I did as you proposed. Unfortunately my password wasn't accepted no
more. I tried the other option with Option "NoAccel" "true" with the
very same result.
It seems that these modifications will interfere some other stuff...

Hopefully that should do it.

I don't have a file /etc/X11/xorg.conf but a folder

I checked for all kind of conf files in /etc/...
I can't figure out where the configuration file is placed.
I found some for keyboard configuration...
The Fedora 22 Installation Guide and the Release Notes don't reveal the
necessary informations.
I feel lost a little bit...
I look further

No, you probably want something in /etc/X11... a lot of the time it's
split up into a bunch of separate files in like /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d
or something. You should consult your distro documentation for how to
make it happen.

Thanks - the only xorg.conf I found is -
/usr/share/abrt/conf.d/plugins/xorg.conf
Is this the file to be edited?

What is a GTX 745? (I'm looking for a GKxxx or GMxxx model.) Are you
using glamor? What bit of "nouveau" did you update? There isn't a
single nouveau driver... (or any other GPU), it's lots of different
bits and pieces. kernel, libdrm, xf86-video-nouveau, mesa.

Online, just now noticed some websites are coming up ok, but then
characters rapidly begin to disappear or get replaced by wrong
characters.
If I click on any words in this post several times, the missing
characters "Kr" intermittently appear in the example above and
disappear
in this sentence.
