Perhaps Man City didn't want him at another Prem club either. As you say,

Yes, Cardiff is his home town and boyhood club so makes sense emotionally for
him. Probably an easier option for him as I'm sure Man City will still pay
most of his wages. But he can still cut it easily in the premier league so
stinks a bit of under-achieving.

It is odd. But he sounded like he'd lost his mojo in intereviews and so I
