Yep, it's looking for stuff in other places than you installed it.
You can confirm that by typing
which texexec
or
which context
and so forth.
On the Mac, /usr/texbin is a symbolic link that points to a directory
under /usr/local/texlive
What you need to do - and I have not installed
Here's a start:
What's in your path? Typing set in the terminal window should tell you.
Second, did you add
source ~/path/to/context/tex/setuptex ~/path/to/context/tex
to your ~/.profile
You need to have the source work from when you log in, and that happens
in the .profile, not the .bashrc.

i suspect there's a (configuration) file containing a path specification
which scite uses to catch some path setting to the old context directory,
hence that path could be modified to first look in the new context directory
any clues which file that is and where it's located ?

According to http://wiki.contextgarden.net/ConTeXt_Minimals
I installed the context minimals in
/opt/context
then ( after some research about its definition and use ) created a
.bash_profile
file (using gedit) to which were added the following instructions
#!/bin/bash

There's a /home/alan/.bashrc so I've put the command line there... doesn't
work either.
Will research about how to proceed with the PATH alternative.

You really need to be more specific. Are you sure you relaunched bash
after editing .bashrc? Bash only reads the configuration file once, at
startup, so if you simply edited it you would have missed the
In any case you need to open a new terminal once you do the changes.

Strange, terminal window says...

you need to source ~/.bashrc
In which file do I put that ?

No it uses source deployment, although it's possible to use binaries as
well.
NixOS puts all the build packages

Yes, it is, but it's better for you to wait a bit and do luatex. NixOS
will hopefully become more user-friendly with the time.
Let me help 'em to have proper luatex support...
