2006-05-31 Thread Renaud AUBIN

Hi Jean,

Your example works here...
I'm not a font guru but it is maybe more interesting for you to use
type1 fonts. Depending on which linux distro you use, you have to tell
tetex to use type1. On my debian testing box, I have uncommented Map
lm.map in /etc/texmf/updmap.d/10tetex-base.cfg and sudo update-updmap
(as I remember...).

I'm not sure this will solve your problem but you can try anyway since
IMHO, it's better to have type1 fonts instead of bitmap...

Moreover, if you want correct language settings for french, you should
better write:

\setupoutput[pdf]
\useencoding[ffr]
\mainlanguage[fr]

\starttext
àéèçù
\oe \a
\stoptext

Cordialement ;)

Renaud

Well, since the first post I ran updmap-sys, and then suddenly the dvi
file is as expected; but with the pdf option I get something unexpected:
instead of blank for accented letters (when I posted first) there are now
sometimes other characters than those I type (I'll send the pdf file if it
can help).

Can you upload the pdf on a website (instead of the ML)?

IMHO, problems with accentuated chars can come from the use of
heterogeneous encodings (emacs unicode + context ec for example as I
experienced). Check the encoding of your input file with file
test.tex, if you get something like ISO-8859 text and you use ec or
texnansi in cont-sys.tex, the problem is not encoding-related.
...

It can help if you send the output messages of texexec...

[NTG-context] two languages side-by-side

I would like to set a text with two languages side-by-side, either on
facing pages, or in two columns. There are some LaTeX packages
available to do so, but how could this be best done in ConTeXt?

Any help would be appreciated.

There is apparently a big problem in your installation but you already
known that... I have not used
http://wiki.contextgarden.net/TeTeX_3.0_installation since I use debian
(apt-get rules). Consequently, we are on the bounds of my knowledge on
this problem...
I assume you need LaTeX (like me :( ), if this is wrong, you'd better
use the standalone ConTeXt for linux.
If you are on debian, I know that
http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Debian_installation works very well (+some
tricks with updmap to use t1 fonts)...

Reinstallation is the worst case, so maybe a ConTeXt guru can help...
Sorry...

[NTG-context] Printing labels with ConTeXt

2006-05-31 Thread Renaud AUBIN

Hi all,

I need to print labels on this kind of paper:
- A4 page with 24 labels (70mm x 36mm)
- 3 columns and 8 rows
- 4.5mm top margin, 4.5mm bottom margin

I use:

\definepapersize[DECAdry-70x36][width=70mm,height=36mm]
\setuppapersize[DECAdry-70x36][A4]
\setuppaper[nx=3,ny=8]
\setuparranging[XY]

I just need to know how to reserve a vertical white space (4.5mm) from
the top of the A4 page and put all my labels side-by-side (vertically
and horizontally).

What happened and how can I get to the level of system support

I don't know how it is on Mac. Under windows I have a binary (cont-win

ruby /path-to-tex/texmfstart.rb $*

see also the new scripts/context/stubs/mac folder (I didn't check, I
only suppose that it's there) if anything there can help you.

Putting the ruby script in the right path and giving it executing
permissions solved most of the problem.
However there is a warning message left:

Since this message results from the internals of texmfstart texexec
it might be a leftover lonely texexec in the scripts. I tried to
find it, but could not find my way around the ruby scripts.

Something in the wrong place or absent?

 Wrong font map search path:

 (./copyright.tex) [1.1{/usr/local/teTeX/share/texmf-local/fo
 nts/map/dvipdfm/context/original-empty.map}{/usr/local/teTeX/share/

 Warning: pdfetex
 ^^

Because this is pdf(e)tex, it should be reading map files from

/usr/local/teTeX/share/texmf-local/fonts/map/pdftex

not dvipdfm. Your TEXFONTMAPS entry in texmf.cnf probably needs
 some tweaking.

I am sorry, I cannot find what to change or what should be wrong.
My texmf.cnf reads:

TEXMFLOCAL = $SELFAUTOPARENT/share/texmf-local

TEXMF = {!!$TEXMFCONFIG,!!$TEXMFVAR,$TEXMFHOME,!!$TEXMFSYSCONFIG,!!
$TEXMFSYSVAR,!!$TEXMFMAIN,!!$TEXMFLOCAL,!!$TEXMFDIST}

% font name map files.
TEXFONTMAPS = .;$TEXMF/fonts/map//

Mirabile dictu! The font missing messages disappear after changing
texexec to the ruby script texmfstart texexec with no change in
texmf.cnf.

[NTG-context] Docs package request

2006-05-31 Thread Idris Samawi Hamid
Dear Hans,

Would it be possible to add a complete documentation package zip to this
page:

http://www.pragma-ade.com/download-1.htm

Basically it would just be the /ConTeXt/doc folder and nothing else. This
is far easier for absolute beginners than navigating the website and
playing with wget and getting the directory structure right etc. Right now
I am telling interested parties to download mswincontesxt.zip, extract the
docs directory, and fire up showcase.pdf. Having a docs zip package would
make it even easier.

Best

I see that things have changed; it's now the

/context/docroot/documents

folder that I am talking about.

You're quite right about putting this in the howto, it should be done, and
maybe also add something about the files texexec.ini and cont-sys.tex.

Hi Johan,

I think you need something like this:

\enableregime[utf]
\loadmapfile[context-base]
\usetypescript[palatino][ec]
\setupbodyfont[palatino,12pt]

\starttext

Here we are using the font \fontname\font.

These are some diacritics: é, ç, à, ô, î.

And these are some ligatures: affliction, affine, first.\par
Can you see correctly \type{affliction, affine, first}?
$${\rm e}^{{\rm i}\pi} + 1 = 0 = \int_0^{2\pi}\sin(x)dx,
\quad \sum_{n=1}^{\infty}{1 \over n^2} = {\pi^2\over 6}.$$
\input knuth.tex

\stoptext

I experienced several problems like the ones you mention, but the
above works fine for me (Mac OS X 10.4.6, TeX and ConTeXt installed
with Gerben Wierda's i-installer).

Best regards: OK

[NTG-context] Page Numbers in TOC; setuplabeltext

2006-05-31 Thread Neal Lester
In the table of context for my documents, I would like Chapters to
have page numbers with alternative=c. However, my Appendices are not
paginated so I do not want them to have page numbers in the TOC.
Since (apparently), Appendix inherits from Chapter, each Appendix is
listed in the TOC with leading dots and page number 0 regardless of
what I put in \setuplist [appendix] when using \placecontent or
\completecontent.

So I tried creating my own head (based on title) and list. Placing
this list under the TOC gives me the effect I want (Appendices are
listed without dots or page numbers). Unfortunately, setuplabeltext
doesn't seem to work on my newly defined head. I've tried all manner
of variations like:

\definelist [myappendixlist]
\setuplist [myappendixlist]
[pagenumber=no,alternative=b,label=yes,conversion=Character]

\definehead[myappendix][title]
\def\appendixlabel#1#2{Appendix #1: #2}
\setuphead[myappendix][command=\appendixlabel]
%
\setuplabeltext [en][myappendix=Appendix~]

\newcounter\myappendices

\long\def\myappendix#1%
{\ifhmode\unskip\fi
 \doglobal\increment\myappendices\relax
 \high{\myappendices}%
 \expanded{\writetolist[myappendixlist]{\myappendices}}{#1}}

1) Is there a way to suppress the display of Appendix page numbers in
a TOC while retaining alternative=c for Chapters?

2) Assuming the answer to (1) is no, how do I enable display of
labels in my custom defined head?

Thanks, Neal
