Now the Korean typesetting has become almost perfect.
Thanks a lot, Hans. I really appreciate it.

We have three more things to do, however.

1. inter_char_stretch_factor = 2.00 seems to be too large value.
I do not think that even Chinese or Japanese would allow that big value.
I suggest 0.50 instead. Mr Wang, how do you think about that?

2.  Upon tracing output, I get :

..\*unbatang12ptrmtfrm* 居
..\penalty 1
..\*unbatang12ptrmtfrm* )
..\penalty 1 %% this should be deleted.
..\glue 0.0 plus 6.0
..\*unbatang12ptrmtfrm* 하

\panalty1 after closing parenthesis should be deleted,
so that line-breaking can occur at this point.

3. Line-breaking rule for medieval Korean is a little imperfect.
When input string is "가나", all from Hangul Jamo area, I get :

..\*unbatang12ptrmtfrm*  % U+1100
..\*unbatang12ptrmtfrm*  % U+1161
%% \penalty50 should be inserted here
..\*unbatang12ptrmtfrm*  % U+1102
..\*unbatang12ptrmtfrm*  % U+1161

As I said in a private email with Hans,
^(OP | LC) allowbreak (LC)
is another typesetting rule for Korean,
where OP stands for Openings and LC for Leading Consonants (U+1100 .. U+115F).
In the above output, as U+1161 is non-LC character,
line-breaking should be allowed between U+1161 and U+1102.

(sorry x my laziness)
If I have a good xml , then mkiv is a good choice. As far I know, mkiv
~ xslt by lpeg, so
"traditional"
xml--( xslt )-->tex--( mkiv )-->pdf
is  like
xml-->( mkiv )-->pdf
Note that in the last chain one mixes xml+tex: if xml become complex,
this can end in a messy situation.

But some documents need heavy preprocessing:
for example, I have one that come from java classes serialization,
and I need the power of python (lxml) to do a clean work .
Also, if xml changes , I 've found that lxml is more flexible than xslt.
In this case I have
xml--( lxml )-->tex--( mkiv )-->pdf

The fact is that python and lua are not so differents,
so I've to manage two languages
(python+lua) and tex;
with 'traditional' workflow you have to manage 3 languages
xslt,lua and tex
and subdivide responsability is not so easy as the former .

BTW, I have no test that say "this one is quickly than that one" .

  That's indeed the Pinyin transcription of the word for "Chinese

Re: [NTG-context] Creating a nomenclature section?

2009-02-17 Thread Carsten Fechtmann

Dear Mike

if something simple is what you had in mind for this, you might want
to try this:

\definesynonyms[nomenclature][nomenclatures][\infull]
\setupsynonyms[nomenclature] %[criterium=all]

\starttext
\completelistofnomenclatures

\section{Some section}

% these could be placed anywhere
\nomenclature[PI]{$\pi$}{the ratio of the circumference with respect
to the diameter of a circle}

\nomenclature[Dia]{$d$}{the diameter of a circle}
% References to them can be placed inside the definition,
% you might want to write a macro for that if that is a feature you
use often

\input knuth

This is the symbol \PI. Please note that no math mode has to be used
here as that is taken care of in the definition.

% Nor for the diameter \Dia.

And just using the list of nomenclatures again:

\placelistofnomenclatures
Produces a list (sorted) of all or all used 'nomenclatures'. See also
the section about abbreviations in the ConTeXt handbook.

There is also the \type{...register} suite of commands if page entries
etc.\ are more what is needed.

\stoptext

Cheers
Carsten

Am 12.02.2009 um 21:00 schrieb Michael Bynum:

elegant work around for this issue. I guess I could just use a list
to make a nomenclature section, but that would lose a lot of the
functionality that makes something like nomencl useful.

I run "update-texmf". Is it this?

No, you need 'texexec --make en'.

Of course, I/we would be glad to have transations.

The bib module core only needs that one word, but if you are
interested you could translate (some of) the small words in
bibl-apa.tex (after copying it to bibl-apa-ca.tex) and then
send me that file so I can include it in the next release of
the module.

The context core appears to have Catalan translations of the
label texts already (/tex/context/base/lang-ita.tex).

[NTG-context] Problem getting output

2009-02-17 Thread Charles Doherty

Dear all,

When I try to typeset a file using XeConTeXt METAFONT is called and
goes into a loop trying to make the fonts you see below. I have made a
clean TeX installation from the MacTeX site but the result is the
same. As an alternative I installed Minimals and created an
MinXeConTeXt.engine in TeXShop. Using this I get a pdf with all my
fonts without a problem. I uninstalled TeX completely but with the re-
installation of MacTeX 2008 I get the result below. I would be most
grateful for advice on what to do to put things right.

Thanks in advance,
Charlie Doherty

I will use now \ps, \cc and \encl. I already dropped \copy because TeX
has a \copy primitive and both conflict with longer letter (>1 pages).

I use your module voor an association. I have no problem if you
change the CC and PS part.

Kind regards

Hi,

I know at least a few people use my letter module and I want to ask
them if they have a problem when I change the handling of appendices
like CC and postscript.

The current way to write them is

\startletter

   postscript=...]
...
\stopletter

and I want to change this in

\startletter
...
\CC{...} % or \copy{...}
\PS{...} % or \postscript{...}
\stopletter

As positive side effect of the new method would be to write

\startletter
\opening{...}
...
\closing{...}
\stopletter

as a alternative way to write the opening and closing text (the old
keyval

works too) but the appendices can be only handled in one way.
