Hi Philipp,
Thanks for your reply.
I have as yet not succeeded in making a non-working minimal example. So far
they all ran smoothly with each of my whole collection of minimals, including
the latest (= yesterday's) beta.
So I will have to look in some of the auxiliary files, setups etc. for the
cause of my trouble.
The fact remains that the present ConTeXt mkiv is different from that of
november and before in a way that is crucial for my project.

Thanks again. Best regards,

Robert Blackstone

[NTG-context] problem with initialize_box in mkIV

2013-03-05 Thread Alexandre Gerussi

Hi there,

i'm having problems with metapost and positional graphics in mkIV.
Here is a small test file that compiles OK with texexec but fails to
compile with context:

% the beginning
 \defineoverlay[frames][\positionoverlay{frames}]
\setupbackgrounds[page][background=frames]

\startMPpositiongraphic{frame}
  initialize_box(\MPpos{\MPvar{self}});
  draw llxy--lrxy--urxy--ulxy--cycle;
\stopMPpositiongraphic

\startpositionoverlay{frames}
  \setMPpositiongraphic{one}{frame}
  \setMPpositiongraphic{two}{frame}
\stoppositionoverlay

\starttext
This \hpos{one}{word} should be \hpos{two}{framed}.
\stoptext
% the end

My system is a Debian Testing, but I don't believe that it is related to
the distribution, as this example also fails

in the context online compiler @ http://live.contextgarden.net/

The problem seems located around the initialize_box macro.

Any help will be much appreciated.
AG.

Here is the entire output when compiling:
$ context essai.tex

mtx-context | run 1: luatex

I have to update my cv for a deadline today, so I need to get this typescript
working asap. Just in case I've attached the whole typescript (MinionPro

maybe/hopefully it's just a small update in syntax that I'm missing.

The syntax of \definestyle is:

\definestyle[important][style=bold, color=red]

which defines a command \important{...} that typesets the result in bold
and there.

The result of \definestyle is lost when the document is exported to XML.
For that case, you should use \definehighlight[...] which has the same
syntax.

I can easily compile amd64 and i386 binaries on Debian/linux.

This is LuaTeX, Version beta-0.75.0-2013030513 (TeX Live 2013/dev)(rev 4589)

Re: [NTG-context] Trouble with \placefloat in recent versions of the standalone

2013-03-05 Thread Philipp Gesang
Hi Robert,

as you got no reply from the others, here’s what I can say:

1. Can you provide a complete, minimal non-working example that
   relies only on the images in tex/context/sample/* ?

> information:
> ---
> ! LuaTeX error [string "\directlua "]:1: invalid escape sequence near '\s'.

2. Maybe your Luatex binary is not in sync with Context. The
   recently included Lua 5.2 is more rigorous with escape
   sequences than its predecessor:

  [12:04:48=>phg@phlegethon=> ~] lua5.1 -e 'print"\s"'
  s
  [12:04:51=>phg@phlegethon=> ~] lua -e 'print"\s"'
  lua: (command line):1: invalid escape sequence near '\s'

   (Where “lua” is the name of the 5.2 binary.) It is possible
   that some leftover files have been loaded when they shouldn’t.
   I would suggest (in this order) to (1) rebuild the format, (2)
   delete the directory “texmf-cache/” in your minimals base dir,
   and, if that all fails, (3) delete “texmf-context/” and re-run
   first-setup.sh.

Regards
Philipp

Its own (1) because there was none and (2) because we want full control
over the two-way interface.

As I'm processing XML tables with pure Lua, too, I'd like to use only
one engine in pure Lua scripts and within ConTeXt;
I believe it could be possible.

Just use the one that is built in context mkiv. You can load the xml
parser code in regular Lua code that you write. Here is the most recent
list of reasonable defaults:

"l-lua.lua",
"l-lpeg.lua",
"l-function.lua",
"l-string.lua",
"l-table.lua",
"l-io.lua",
"l-number.lua",
"l-set.lua",
"l-os.lua",
"l-file.lua", -- limited functionality when no lfs
"l-md5.lua", -- not loaded when no md5 library
"l-url.lua",
"l-dir.lua", -- limited functionality when no lfs
"l-boolean.lua",
"l-unicode.lua",
"l-math.lua",

"util-tab.lua",
"util-sto.lua",
"util-str.lua",
"util-mrg.lua",
"util-prs.lua",

"trac-inf.lua",
"trac-set.lua",
"trac-log.lua",

"util-tpl.lua",

"util-env.lua",

"lxml-tab.lua",
"lxml-lpt.lua",
"lxml-mis.lua",
"lxml-aux.lua",
"lxml-xml.lua",

If you cannot use mtxrun --script for some reason, you can
load these files explicitly. In one of the upcoming betas I'll add a
script that I use for some months now that permits you to build a merged
lib out of these (and more) that then can be includes with one require
call (and put alongside whatever code you use). The advantage is that
you then have a sort of snapshot. (I use that approach in for instance
web services.) Think of:

lua mtxlibs.lua  --selfmerge  my-used-libs.luatrac-lmx util-jsn
util-sql util-sql-imp-client util-sql-imp-library util-sql-sessions
util-sql-tickets util-sql-loggers util-sql-users util-sql-logins

This produces my-used-libs.lua which on top of the list above adds some
more to it. You then only need to require this one lib and can avoid
dependencies, path mess, etc.

Hans can give the authoritative answer, of course, but if you look into
http://www.pragma-ade.com/general/manuals/mk.pdf , chapter XVII, you
will see that he has indeed written his own parser, based on lpeg, and
not used any of the lua libraries (I'm not a programmer, so take my word
with a ton of salt, but I had a look at them and found them truly awful,
compared to what, e.g., python and perl have to offer).

Hi,

I uploaded a beta. This will be the last one useable with pre-0.75 luatex so
if you depend on it, best make a snapshot now.

Some 50 files will be replaced in 0.75 and I'm not sure when Mojca will do
the 0.75 garden update.
