Under latex I can generate a perfect ps file (with dvips), but I

I think we have come close to a solution...
I used the batch file Willy advised me. (Afm2tfm is interrupted, when called
through texfont; I don't know why. Everything seems to work normally though.)
It generates a lot of font files in a batch. Very handy, I must say!

\definetypeface[hudson][rm][serif][palatino][default]

to your code.

I ran the tests exactly as you suggested. There is something wrong with a tmf
font but I don't understand the message.
I also looked in the file cont-sys.tex and added the line
\autoloadmapfilestrue. It does not make any difference.
