systems with lots of preroll and avoid having the Particle stream to be
evaluated every time something changes below

That's odd.
Try opening it with a text editor and replacing the Gizmo { for Group
{, copy and paste it to Nuke. But the copy to Group should be working.

Most gizmos (to not say all) won't allow you to copy to a group if imported
instead of sourced, so that's where your problem resides.
