exactly half or even divisable number.  3/4 size maybe? Also what about
rendering lower bit depth if possible.  Depends on what is being done post
render.  Depends on delivery display medium.

You might also try rendering at exactly 1/2 the deliverable resolution and then 
uprez 2x with TVIScale.

Don't get me wrong, but:
Why did you agree to deliver 4k if the budget or time doesn't allow for it?
Isn't that significantly devaluing the VFX work?
