This (Friday) afternoon, an adult Red-headed Woodpecker was observed
flying at Chestnut Ridge Hawkwatch, Bedford Corners NY (just outside the
city/township limits of Mount Kisco--Region 9). The bird crossed in
front of our east view just below eye level approximately 15 meters from
the watch
Alley Pond Park was a good place to be this morning. I birded the park 8am
to 11am, with Ian Resnick and, at various times, Lisa, Steve Schellenger,
and Andrew Baksh. Though not super birdy, there were nice pockets of
warbler and other bird activity scattered throughout the park. The
highlight was
Central Park, Manhattan, N.Y. City
On Thursday, 5 Sept. there were a fair number of migrants yet it
seemed to this observer that many had departed, with diversity lower
and overall numbers at least no higher from the preceding day (Wed. 4
Sept.). Also, some of the uncommon birds of the day
Presumably the same two juvenile Piping Plovers still in the area (closer to
westernmost Point Lookout jetty) today. One of them is banded -- gray over
blue on the right leg and yellow over white on the left leg. My previous
late date is Sept. 4 (2011, Cupsogue).
