This looks to be quite an interesting goose and from all accounts a hybrid
looks like a good bet. Cackling is an interesting choice for part of the
parentage but it would be hard to rule out Canada X Brant. In any case a cool
looking bird!
Is this bird still being seen at Randall's Island?
Hi all;
A hybrid goose has spent the winter with the brant flock on Randall's
Island, first noted (by me, at least) in January the same day the barnacle
goose was found. It appears very similar to a dark brant, but aside from
the obvious darker coloration, particularly on the flanks, and reduced
This afternoon, from ~ 2:00 - 4:00 P.M., there were many fewer birds here,
than on my last visit, Feb.27 - one of the major reasons being, that the
dredging has been completed. Highlights for me were: ~ 110 C.Eiders, a
ways out in the bay; 2 immature Iceland Gulls, both flying at the same
time,
There was a singing FOX SPARROW at the Jones Beach West End turnaround.
Responding to word of mouth for Doug's find of the ICELAND GULL at Field#10, a
pair or calling SNOW GEESE flew low over the parking lot as I paused to take
pictures of the gull from my car window..

The waterfowl on the Upper Hudson River in Schuylerville and Fort Miller have
exploded overnight. Today's highlights were the large numbers of Ring-necked
Ducks, Greater Scaup, Bufflehead, Common and Hooded Mergansers, and most
significantly, 2 drake Redheads with a single drake Canvasback. We
I haven't seen anyone post since this morning. The Red-necked grebe was still
there at the Reservoir at 5:30PM. I stuck around the park (at the Ramble)
looking for Oriole and maybe Pine Warbler, struck out on both, but decided to
stay until sunset when some locals alerted me to Woodcock
A quick (10-15 minutes) mid-day scoping of the north end of Argyle Lake in
Babylon proved rather productive. The previously reported Red-necked Grebe was
feeding by itself near the bridge, and approached within a few feet of the
shoreline at times. A Peregrine Falcon perched on the sand
I just realized that this never made it to NYSBIRDS. Some very good
waterfowl was seen today on Staten Island at Arbutus Pond. First Anthony
Ciancimino found a pair of Tundra Swans that were scared away by the
resident pair of Mute Swans before anyone else could get to see them. The

Hi Guys, hate to be a bother but, was curious if there been any recent
