_Franklin Mountain Hawkwatch 2016 Wrapup_
The traditional Franklin Mt. Hawkwatch New Years Day end of season came
under mostly sunny skies and light westerly winds today.An adult
Red-tailed Hawk went south at 11:24 a.m., making it the only raptor of
the day and last bird of the season.This mark
Eleven species of gulls were found along the Niagara River today, from the
power plants to the control gates. The highlight was an adult SLATY-BACKED
GULL, found by Chris Kundl in the shallows off of Goat Island, just above
Three Sisters Islands. Some of us are lucky (my hand is up) but Chris works
Montauk was hot this morning - Razorbills (75+), Dovekie (1), Red-necked Grebe
(1), Black-legged Kittiwake (2) plus the usual stuff.

Glaucous Gull, Harlequin Duck (2), and Snowy Owl at Shinecock

Got a quick glimpse in my binoculars of a bird I can only explain as a
flycatcher type of bird but very yellow with a yellow belly. It leaped lower
down as I tried to get a photo and i wasnt able to get a shot. I stuck around a

Highlight by far and uncommon on this side of Westchester County, were two
horned grebe on reservoir. Behind the second "island" driving around on croton
dam road (near the New Croton Dam) from other direction pick up the road by the
"pump-house" on Rte 129 (west of Jennifer's German Restaurant
