There is a juvenile BAIRD'S SANDPIPER in a rain puddle in the parking lot in
front of the Aviator building at Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn. This is next
to the field where the Buff-breasted Sandpipers were last year. The Baird's was
present from 6:05-7:40.

Following some sage advice from Sean Sime regarding the second high tide of the
day being more productive for gulls loafing on the beach, I revisited Coney
Island this afternoon in search of the Gray-hooded Gull. I immediately noticed
that there were way more LAGU than had been present this morn
Based on communication with Doug last night, I searched unsuccessfully for the
possible Grey-headed Gull from 6:45 to 8:15 this morning. I rode the entire
length of the boardwalk on my bike.

A one hour search before work this morning of Floyd Bennett's parking lots and
runways was unsuccessful in finding yesterdays putative Thayer's Gull. There
were over 600+ Herring scattered about the various rain pools left by
yesterday's deluge. Gulls were shuttling about however and I certainly

of one of the ballfields on the north side of Calvert Vaux Park (formerly

Red-shouldered Hawk near the fisherman's lot at Fort Tilden and a 1st year

Just in time for the Brooklyn CBC count week, I found an adult Black-headed
Gull roosting with ~300 Ring-billed Gulls on the 69th Street fishing pier near
the Owls Head Wastewater Treatment Plant in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn.
This is very likely the same bird that spent last winter in the area. I had
Hermit warbler is in same place as yesterday as of 7:45 am; seen by Shane
Blodgett, Rob Jett & Heydi Lopes.

When the bird flew off it was joined first by a single bird and then 4 others

A WESTERN GREBE is currently in Prince's Bay between Sequine Point (Lemon Creek
Park) and the Fishing Pier at the end of Sharrot's Avenue in Staten Island,
Richmond County. It is about 300 yards off shore and should be viewable from
the fishing pier.

With apologies for the belated report, I observed a WESTERN GREBE from about
10:15 to 10:45 this morning ~400 yards off of Riis Park in Queens, NY. The bird
was amongst a large flock of RB Mergansers and Long-tailed Duck.

on the water ~ 50 yards offshore and 75 yards north of the pedestrian
footbridge. When I took my eyes off him for a minute he disappeared, but
quickly reappeared on one of the exposed rocks along the shoreline (still

now best viewed from the boardwalk near the intersection of West 5th Street and
Surf Avenue. It was only about 100 yards offshore.

The Mew Gull was present for a very short time near the eastern most of the two
parking lot/rest areas along the Belt Parkway between the Verrazano Bridge and
Bensonhurst Park.

Doug Gochfeld just called to say that he and Scott Whittle have refound the Mew
Gull. I believe that Bob O'Neill (another Brooklyn birder) alerted them to the
presence of the bird.
It was on the water of Gravesend Bay near the foot of the pedestrian bridge
that crosses the Belt Parkway at ~ Ba
der-based on age and location if this bird might be the same bird
that Angus Wilson found in April, 2009. That was a second winter and this is an
adult.
BTW, if anyone has an extra scope lying around, I'm in the market...

t subway is Bay Ridge Avenue R stop. It's over a half mile walk from
there, though you could wait for a number 1 or 9 bus to bring you down to the
water. Also the x27 and x37 express buses stop along Bay Ridge Avenue.. For
those who drive you can usually find parking on 68th street.

being fed bread crumbs by a local gentlemen.

I checked for the probable Tundra Swan before the rain without success.
I scoped the bay from multiple vantage points along the West Pond Trail, from
the North Channel Bridge parking lots and from Floyd Bennett.
It could have been on the East Pond which I did not check...

Rob Jett found a Lark Sparrow along the south edge of the North Forty at Floyd
Bennett. It was in a rainwater pool at the end of the north/south main
road/runway. This is near the pools that have attracted shorebirds over the
past couple of summers.
