Went looking for Roseate Terns this evening and photo'd a lone tern in front of
the 'west colony' that nagged me as a potential Arctic Tern, upon further
review of the 3 poor photos taken, there is enough there to show the right size
and color of the legs and bill. I wanted to get the w
There’s at least one adult Arctic Tern loafing on the beach adjacent to the
main tern colony at Nickerson Beach. Flushed periodically by beachgoers.
Good birding!

Yesterday there were very few loafing birds until around 10:00. Then flocks
started to loaf at the wet area on the west side, where the western path from
the parking lot comes in. There were three Roseates. 40.586838, -73.604113

A Portlandica Arctic Tern made a brief appearance in front of the eastern tern
colony at Nickerson beach just now. Two Gull-billed Terns have been around as
well. Oddly absent are Roseate Terns so far. There have not been many loafing
flocks on the beach so far today.

Hi All! The Arctic Tern was just loafing with a few dozen common Terns and one
or two roseate terns on the western colony side. Someone from conservation just
checked a plover nest and the flock just flushed but seems to be returning. No
Wilson's phalarope or black terns present at this time! -K

Just arrived at Nickerson and immediately found an adult Arctic Tern in front
of the eastern colony. Will post if I see anything else of note, but wanted to
get the word out early so people could get here before collecting starts.
Roseates present as well.
Cheers!

Following up on my earlier post. Two immature Bonaparte's Gulls showed up and
loafed in the fresh (?) water pools on the beach. Also, 2 Royal Terns made a
late appearance sometime after 4:00 pm as I was packing it in. My last count of
Roseate Terns was at 9.
Folks have been reporting the good T
The birds are up so I am taking a moment to post. I just found an adult ARCTIC
TERN among the many Common Terns at Nickerson Beach Nassau County.
1 Black Tern and 6 Roseate Terns (counted thus far) also continue. The Tern
flock are putting up constantly so patience, is required when searching.
Hi All,
Another report from Brendan Fogarty! First-year ARCTIC TERN at same locale
as the last, a few hundred feet west of skimmer colony. He was able to get
photos.
Good birding,
