I spent the day at the preserve yesterday and saw a total of fifty (50) species. The pond at Merrick Road was particularly active and covered with ducks, gulls, grebes etc. Adding to Robert Taylor's email, I saw a dead Great Blue Heron next to the Pittsburgh Ave. pond. I saw no obvious trauma,

Hi Everyone, Following Peter Morris's report (I don't get tired of Red Necked Grebe sightings) I was at the lake today since I haven't seen any RN Grebes before - saw just one today but as Peter noted it was quite a stunner. It was my first time at this spot and it was really nice there...people

Today was the day to make my annual trip to Bohemia to have our income taxes prepared. Due to Derek Rogers' post re: the Red-necked Grebe he saw at Patchogue Lake yesterday, I took a slight detour en-route, and finally caught up with my 1st of the winter ! The bird is still seen well from 2nd St.
