I spent the day at the preserve yesterday and saw a total of fifty (50) species. The pond at Merrick Road was particularly active and covered with ducks, gulls, grebes etc.
Adding to Robert Taylor's email, I saw a dead Great Blue Heron next to the Pittsburgh Ave. pond. I saw no obvious trauma, and my initial guess was it was just a victim of the harsh winter. I hope it wasn't killed by someone or their dog. -- Joseph O'Sullivan -- NYSbirds-L List Info: http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsWELCOME http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsRULES http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsSubscribeConfigurationLeave.htm ARCHIVES: 1) http://www.mail-archive.com/nysbirds-l@cornell.edu/maillist.html 2) http://www.surfbirds.com/birdingmail/Group/NYSBirds-L 3) http://birdingonthe.net/mailinglists/NYSB.html Please submit your observations to eBird: http://ebird.org/content/ebird/ --
