October 10, 2022

Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge (MNWR) and Montezuma Wetlands Complex (MWC)




     HUDSONIAN GODWITS have continued through the week up to yesterday at the 
Visitor’s Center and at Knox-marsellus Marss. No report yet today.

     10/10: An AMERICAN AVOCET was spotted along the Wildlife Drive. also seen 
there were an AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER and a LONG-BILLED DOWITCHER. 3 SANDHILL 
CRANES were seen at Armitage Road.







Oswego County






     A HUDSONIAN GODWIT was seen almost all week at Selkirk Shores State Park 
on Lake Ontario. 

10/15: An ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER was seen at Sandy Pond State Park on Lake 
Ontario. 7 Shorebird species including WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER and the afore 
mentioned HUDSONIAN GODWIT were seen at Selkitk Shores State Park.







Onondaga county






     8 WARBLER species were seen this week. Keep an eye (and an ear) out. 
They’ll be gone soon.

     10/11: A female type SURF SCOTER was seen at the Visitor’s Center and boat 
Launch on the west side of Onondaga Lake. A BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON was seen 
on the West Shore Trail of Onondaga lake.

     10/14: A LONG-EARED OWL was seen in the big fields area east of 60 Road at 
the 3 Rivers WMA north of Baldwinsville.

     10/15: A LINCOLN’S SPARROW was seen at 3 rivers WMA north of Baldwinsville.

     10/16: 2 BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS were seen along the Onondaga Creek 
Creek Walk near the Destiny Shopping center in Syracuse.







Madison County






     10/14: 2 COMMON GALLINULES were seen at the Utica Marsh WMA.







Herkimer County

     1/12: A LINCOLN’S SPARROW was seen at a private residence in Salisbury 
north of Dolgeville.
