The birder that Dou Gochfeld referred to is Stan Kirsh, a friend for over 30
years, who now lives in North East, Maryland. Stan has been birding for 5-6

The East Pond star of today, although elusive for a while, was the HUDSONIAN
GODWIT, which was on the East side of the pond opposite the 3rd spit from a bit
after 12:00 (noon) to ~1:30 PM when a Harrier briefly forced all the shorebirds
into the air. It then disappeared for several hours while

[Update - BOS Shorebird Field Trip,
After spending the morning at Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge, we stopped
at WE2 in the early afternoon. There were a good number of shorebirds
on the south (ocean-side) section of the temporary pond that lies just
south of the WE2 pavilion. Present was a Golden Plover and two fly-
over Royal

I am not really a "shorebirder" and with my binoculars recently been stolen
(a nice pair) I was unable to ID many shore birds seen in Orange County
the past few days. Therefore this email is for anyone who may want to go
check them out and ID them.
Yesterday, I had at least 35 birds on
This morning's highlights with a little location detail, all at the northern
end of the East Pond:
Red-necked Phalarope - probably a basic plumaged adult - very cooperative
feeding on the western shore between the north end and the cove, very tame, as
noted yesterday by Vinnie
Avocet -
The Red-necked Phalarope is still at JB as of 8:30 this am. It was still on
the northwestern side of the east pond foraging on the edge and on the mud.
Very nice bird.
