[nysbirds-l] Queens Ash-throated Flycatcher - Yes
Hi All, The ATFL was seen well around 3:30 today in the usual spot in the lot surrounding the red brick building at the intersection of Cohancy and N. Conduit. It was seen and photographed well in the trees alongside the pink building. It took us about an hour of waiting before the bird finally surfaced. We did not see the Orange-crowned, but a Juv. Cooper's Hawk passed through the lot. I was with Jack Rothman and later joined by Arie Gilbert and Gene Loscalzo who and also got great views. [nysbirds-l] Pink-footed Goose - Yes
Hi all, My mom and I were able to relocate the PINK-FOOTED GOOSE this afternoon between 2 and 3 this afternoon at the Kings Park High School, where it was with roughly 200 Canada Geese. We were unable to locate either the Cackling or Barnacle Goose in this flock, and although we did not check Sunken Meadow State Park, we were told by another birder that neither goose was there either. It was interesting to note that the Pink-footed Goose was vocalizing a lot this afternoon. Has anyone else noticed this? [nysbirds-l] Juvenile Ivory Gull at Cape May - Extralimital
The juvenile Ivory Gull was seen by several birders this morning (Saturday) between 10:30 and 11:00, as well as earlier, at the Bree-Zee-Lee Yacht Basin on Ocean Drive (just north of the canal) in Cape May. The juvenile, with its broken black wing lines, is a beautiful bird. [nysbirds-l] South Fork LI: Kittiwakes &, King Eider
The South Fork of Long Island was buffeted by strong WNW winds (22-36 mph) this morning as the front pushed out yesterdays wet weather giving blue skies by late morning. I seawatched for an hour and a half (8:38-10:08 am) from Main Beach in East Hampton and noted a good showing of *BLACK-LEGGED KITTIWAKES* (28 total) and assortment of waterfowl passing offshore headlined by a full adult male *KING EIDER* flying east. A 2nd winter *LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL* briefly joined the regular species feeding in the surf as the tide dropped. The kittiwakes passed westward in small groups mixed with Bonaparte's and Laughing Gulls. Here's my tally: Red-throated Loon - 46 Common Loon - 9 loon sp. - 12 Northern Gannet - 595 Brant - 3 Canada Goose - 8 Wood Duck - 2 Mallard - 1 Green-winged Teal - 3 Greater Scaup - 1 Common Eider - 9 *KING EIDER* - 1 (ad. male flying east) Long-tailed Duck - 42 White-winged Scoter - 49 Surf Scoter - 55 Black Scoter - 865 dark winged scoter - 380 Hooded Merganser - 12 *BLACK-LEGGED KITTIWAKE* - 28 (6 ads & 22 juvs) Bonaparte's Gull - 80 Laughing Gull - 36 (mostly ads) *Lesser Black-backed Gull *- 1 (2nd winter) Herring Gull - 60 Great Black-backed Gull - 45 Ring-billed Gull - 75 -- Angus Wilson New York City & The Springs, NY, USA http://birdingtotheend.blogspot.com/ -- NYSbirds-L List Info: http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsWELCOME http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsRULES Archives: 1) http://www.mail-archive.com/nysbirds-l@cornell.edu/maillist.html 2) http://birdingonthe.net/mailinglists/NYSB.html Please submit your observations to eBird: http://ebird.org/content/ebird/ --
