I thought it might be both amusing and helpful to relate what happened
today on my visit to Timber Point to see the Dovekie. I went to Timber Point
about 3PM to the boat basin to see the bird, but when I got there at the
boat Basin there was no Dovkie to be seen, but I met a birder with bino
I got out to Jamaica Bay this afternoon (3 PM to 5 PM) to try to locate the
Barrow's Goldeneye. According to the bird log, it was last seen on the 24th. I
had no luck, but came away with a fairly decent waterfowl list. The American
Kestrel was perching on the telephone poles along Cross Bay Boul

I made an attempt around 4pm for the Dovekie at Timber Point and it was easy
to find; got two more birds while there.
I had never been to Timber Point before, and as I drove the road toward West
Marina, a Red-shouldered Hawk flew into a tree just over the road, and then

almost the same time as before. It's still coming around 3pm.

I saw the Dovekie in the usual 'west marina' section of the Timber Point Golf
Course around 12:40 - 1:00 this afternoon. Incredibly easy to find, incredibly
easy access, no hassles. I almost thought I was back birding in North Carolina.
