I spent an hour and a half this evening (4 30 - 6 00 Thursday June 10th)
watching for the previously reported Mississippi Kite in the Town of Root,
Montgomery County, but came up empty.
Another group was in the area around noon today. They also dipped.

I conducted a point count route on the Rensselaer Plateau yesterday morning
(Jun 9). Highlights include 12 warbler species (plus Prairie and
Black-and-white in a power line cut after the route), a Bobolink heard
singing with no fields anywhere in sight, 2 Barred Owls, and
recently-fledged
Sorry to bore everyone with a bird sighting rather than my political opinions,
but there were 2 or 3 Cory's Shearwaters along with some Gannets at Robert
Moses State park this morning around 9 AM. Earlier at Tobay there were only
gannets
OK, given the numbers being thrown around, here's a standing offer:
For me to do "two 3 minute point counts at 20 points" I charge a
standing $10K, and I won't even charge for mileage, or lodging, or
meals. (will take those as a tax break, however.) And I'll write a
report.

Probably everyone knows everything costs.
But there are always tons of volunteers, many of them are on this e-mail list
who have been working for free for the sake of birds and other wildlife and
have spent hundreds of dollars surveying etc.
Their time is donated free.
Their interest is
Do you know for a FACT that the surveys cost only $50-$500. What you are
ignoring is
---Time to set up point counts, that is where do they go $$$
---Time to get the contract to conduct the surveys developed and
executed more $$$
---Time to enter and analyze data. more $$$
