Today, I birded two tide cycles at Cupsogue LI, checking the area where the
Red-necked Stint was reported yesterday, but came up empty.
The conditions were dismal for birding with heavy fog engulfing the area for
most of the morning. I had a hint of what the visibility would look like

This evening (approx. 7:15PM) a group of birders were treated to the
appearance of two young, downy Least Bitterns on the east side of the small
pond at Massapequa Preserve (MP) where they have been seen this past week. One
bird was observed flapping his wings vigorously while perched on a bent
I stopped at the bench and met up with Steve S? He quickly located a
fledgling in the phrags, where it remained for the duration. As of
the time I left we spotted no other of the bitterns.

This morning in the fog of the mud flats, two Wilson's Phalarope,
feeding in the water mid-way between the "mainland" and the spoil
island. Birds were seen between 6:45 and 8:30, when we left. We
were unable to find the red-necked stint, which was reported by Carl
Starace yesterday.
