A trip to the Old Field Lighthouse yielded a first winter BONAPARTE'S GULL
flying around not too far offshore. We didn't see the Red-necked Grebe,

quick afternoon drive was quite productive (3:00 - 3:30)

Kevin McGann and I went to Middletown to see if the Pink-footed Goose was still
around. We checked all of the spots Curt mentioned plus the ponds across from
the Psychiatric Center on Route 17M with no success. Most of the geese we did
find were on the pond visible from the foot trail off 6 & 1/
This morning I came across a SAY'S PHOEBE at the Coxsackie Grasslands, off
Rt 9-W in The Greene County. [about 1 mile south of Twy Exit 21-B]
The bird was actively feeding and flying about with a southerly directional
tendency before I left the vicinity to avoid chasing it as it was very
active
Had a few hours this morning to check a couple of the Montauk sights:
Lazy Point, Napeague: RED KNOT (1) in the shorebird roost, LESSER
BLACK-BACKED GULL (1), Northern Gannet (1), Northern Harrier, but no white
lumps on distant dunes.
Fort Pond Bay: RED-NECKED GREBE (1) - thank you Angus
