[nysbirds-l] Say NO
The previously reported Coxsackie Grasslands Say's Phoebe was not refound yesterday nor this morning. There's plenty of happy habitat for phoebes in the area, so the bird could be anywhere - including South Jersey - by now. If the scene changes, I'll post accordingly. I'll post an embarrassingly bad photo of the bird on HMBirds yahoo site - when I get a chance. [nysbirds-l] Smith Point C.P. - Suffolk
A fairly slow day today at Smith Point with the exception of hundreds of northern gannets plunge diving in close proximity to the shore. Red-throated loons were also of note. The 15 ruddy ducks were in their usual location near the new fishing pier. On the terrestrial side, we found 1 VESPER SPARROW perched on the fence near the handball courts. I managed to get great digiscope photos of the bird. Re:[nysbirds-l] WEKI @ Breezy Point Queens... (Re-found)
Tom Burke and Gail Benson just re-found the Western Kingbird along the fence line heading towards the Silver Gull Club at Breezy Point. The bird was last seen flying into the field/parking lot of the club. The good news, is that it's still here. Good luck if you go. Good and responsible birding! [nysbirds-l] Bronx Birding - Greater White-fronted Goose, Orange Crowned Warbler, Scarlet Tanager +
Yesterday, our group from my Saturday bird walk, again had the continuing *GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE* on the parade grounds at Van Courtlandt Park. Some of us first had the bird at around 7:50 a.m. and then we all saw it around 8:00 - 8:30. Later on, around 10:30 a.m. we tried to get some late comers on the bird, but by then it had left the parade grounds. Following the walk, I continued birding the Bronx and had some good results. At Pelham Bay, I found an *ORANGE CROWNED WARBLER*, then had quite the surprise when I found 3 *BALTIMORE ORIOLES* and 1 female *SCARLET TANAGER* feeding on Porcelain Berries. Later on at Orchard Beach, the highlight was a *RED-NECKED GREBE* thanks to a tip from some regular birders in the area. Good Birding!
