The following covers the weekend and today on the movement of shorebird
arrival and departure from the East Pond.
The shorebirds continue to come and go on the East Pond of Jamaica Bay in
Queens. I along with others had hoped the front would have pushed in some
interesting birds on Saturday
Although a bit early, but encouraged by last night's n/w winds, this
morning I decided to take my first trip up to the "Riverhead Trapezium",
bordered by Sound Ave, Route 105, Northville Tpke and Doctor's Path. Avian
activity was thin, with Kildeer being the only shorebird found - 6 in
this area,
The latter part of July is the time for one of the year’s most striking and
abrupt shifts in bird occurrence in coastal New York. As the big initial pushes
of the earliest shorebird species pass beyond us, juveniles of these species,
and adults of many additional species, begin arriving.
My morning walk through the Ramble had four warbler species and a
couple of other points of interest: Two American Redstarts, a
Black-and-White Warbler, a Yellow Warbler, and a Northern Waterthrush,
all around the Gill just north of Azalea Pond, along with a Warbling
Vireo; Another Yellow Warbler

I (Lee Schlesinger) took a quick couple of turns through Bryant Park this
morning--early in the season, but excellent conditions; and indeed I saw a
couple of migrants: an Empidonax flycatcher (pale lemony belly but whitish
upper breast/throat, rather broad pale bill, possibly an Acadian); one
