Are they closing a building or access to the entire area?
Is the area protected as a mapped park, either in the Town of Islip or the
county or state?
Does the Town have a plan to sell the property or repurpose it or are they
simply closing access because they can't afford to have staff present?

A drizzling but pleasant morning of birding at Kissena Park in Queens
yielded a few notable birds that would be a nice addition to the QCBC
Christmas Count. Some of these birds were also seen this morning by Eric
Miller.
Highlights included *Common Redpoll* (2) at least three were seen yesterday
Was out in the yard stacking wood and had a flock of ~70 snow geese fly
over the yard. All white morph as far as I could see (no binocs and
misty). Flock was in a broken V, behaving as though they were searching for
a landing site. Flying very low, came in from NE and circled yard heading
NW.
12/10/12 this afternoon in the fog/drizzle:
Common Yellowthroat foraging among House Sparrows in Union Square Park.
Also Mourning Dove, Swamp Sparrow, White-throated Sparrows, etc.
