Beautiful birding day at NYBG. A three hour tour of the Garden produced the
following birds;
Black throated blue-1
Northern Parula-1
Common Yellowthroat-1
Yellow rumped -2
Sparrows (all spotted in new Native Plant Garden)
Clay-1
Field -3
White crowned -3
Chipping-many
Song-4
Swamp-2
Eastern
CPP main landfill very active w sparrows yesterday. Literally dozens of
Savannah's and Song. One vesper, great looks. At least 8-10 swamp. Off the
landfill one field; many chipping around, 6 junco, others had a Lincoln's.
Warblers limited to large numbers of yellow rumped; several palm and a

On the City Island Birds walk today, we were treated to close looks of both
adult and juvenile Red Headed Woodpeckers. Our group was splintered along the
trail at one point during the walk, with approximately 7 people in each group.
We believe there are two juveniles, since both groups were

as the previous week. Must be something in the water…

To my knowledge, the Lark Sparrow was not seen today, but Tom Perlman
found a Vesper Sparrow ~10am, just north of the compost area. Knowing
I was in the park, he emailed me, so I sent out a text alert to
NYNYBIRD then headed over there. He and I saw the bird again ~10:30
for maybe 30

Here is a link to the Sora that has been seen in Bryant Park since Thursday
afternoon. Please have a look and let me know what you think. I'm wondering
about its age: hatch year or first summer one-year-old bird? Is it possible
to sex it?
