For anyone interested a Eurasian Green-winged Teal was discovered during
the Smithtown CBC today at Bill Richards Park in Suffolk County. It was on
the eastern spur of the only pond on site.
This park may not be Google map-able. It is a dirt parking lot just east
of the entrance to Blydenburgh C
Anyone looking for a good year end twitch, there were 4 cooperative Red
Crossbills, 2 male and 2 females, along the boardwalk to the Robert Moses
Lighthouse (about 3/4 of the way to the lighthouse).
(Yes there are Razorbills on the ocean)

For those interested the Townsend's Solitaire is still showing in Southold
on North Sea Drive. While there I had a fly over Bald Eagle (juv) which
was nice and ran into fellow birders Arie, Bob and Jacqueline P.
Prior to seeing the Solitaire I had completely struck out on the South Fork

The Pink-footed found by Pete M yesterday continues at the ball fields adjacent
to Elda Lake.
Also had the continuing juv. Snow Goose at Colonial Spring Gold associating

One Hudsonian Godwit was noted lingering in the Field 7 lot this morning.
There was also a small group of Snow Buntings, BB Plovers, Dunlin. A
resting Bonaparte's Gull amongst the usual suspects was nice.

Hi all,
Mike Rath and I discovered a number of Cackling Geese yesterday during the
Smithtown CBC. With birds moving around during the day we figured there to
be at least 4 individuals, three of which were well photographed.

Today, in the small area of open water the lone duck turned out to be a
female Redhead. Viewed from the Islip Pavilion on the west/southwest side
of the lake. This is a first for me for this species at this location.
Additionally, the Eurasian Wigeon is still at the Mill Pond in Sayville.
Also
To my surprise there is a Red-necked Grebe on the east side of Lake Ronkonkoma.
Other notables for this location being a red-throated loon and red-breasted
merganser (a mention this because in the past it was commented that others have
never seen it here).
A good day for red in the name?

There is a Greater White-front Goose on the soccer fields with Canadas at
Waverly Elementary north of the LIE east of Nichols road (can been seen

After seeing Baltimore Orioles, Blue-headed Vireo and Blue-winged Warbler

TERN is still on the Cupsogue flats. The bird was very cooperative and remained

A quick outing with my wife turned up a Lesser Black-backed Gull (I am
completely guessing but I think 3rd winter plumage) in the puddles at Field
7 at Heckscher.
Other spots like Lakeland County Park have yet to turn up anything too
noteworthy besides typical migrants such as extremely cooperativ
Currently being viewed on the East Pond, and the number has risen to three
American Avocets.

The Barnacle Goose was observed leaving with Canadas southward around 1pm
and has not seemed to have returned to Millers Pond. A decently extensive
search of surrounding fields was done by myself and Derek Rogers but failed
to turn up the goose. A large number (possible 30+, I recorded 24

At 1:45pm on the way back from cutting a Christmas tree my wife and I pulled
over on the side of the LI expressway between exits 69 and 68 and observed
presumingly the same previously reported pair of bald eagles (1 adult, 1
immature) soaring and drifting further east.

This past weekend I had a Common Raven flew over my house in Ronkonkoma
