The marbled godwit was seen west of the Ponquogue Bridge this morning
around 9 AM at low tide. It was best seen from the end of Road K,
bayside, looking to the northwest. There is a dirt spit with reeds,
just west of the big island. The godwit was seen just beyond the dirt
spit in the water
Nothing to report from the Riverhead sod farms this morning.
The sod farms in and around Rte 51 had 2 different flocks of black
bellied plovers only.

Iceland gull not present at Iron Pier in
the horned lark flock, reported yesterday, was found this morning at 11
in Mattituck in the sod field on the southeast corner of Oregon Road and
Depot Road. There were many snow buntings in the flock but the lapland
longspurs could not be found. Be advised viewing conditions were
difficult

large flock of pipits were found around 10:30 this morning on the west
side of Duck Pond Road, north of Oregon Road, in Riverhead.

This morning around 9:30, an all white bird with black wingtips overflew
the farm fields along Northville Turnpike between Doctor's Path and Rte
105 east of Riverhead. It continued north until we lost it in the fog.

On Tuesday, a bobwhite was heard at 8:30 in the field north of Oregon
Road at the corner of Bridge Lane in Southold, Long Island. This is our
go-to place for bobwhite.
Later, around 9 AM at Cedar Beach, a whimbrel was spotted in the marsh
behind the beach. Whimbrels are seen in this marsh
Largest flock of blackbirds I've ever seen, about 2000-3000 grackles, red wing
blackbirds, cowbirds and starlings on Town Line Road, south of Montauk Highway
where Sagaponick & East Hampton meet. Flock has moved east as I write this

Found at Suffolk County Farm in Yaphank. There is a hedge row about 100 yards
due west of parking area. Walk to north end of hedge row and move south. There

A whip-poor-will was heard calling at 8:30 PM from the parking lot of
the Quogue Wildlife Center Tuesday evening. It called continuously for
5 minutes.
No chucks were heard.

I would like to correct my email from last night, as it was misleading.
Rereading that post, it would seem to indicate that the bird was in the
parking lot. It was not. The whip was calling from a distance, west of
the refuge, probably from the grounds of Westhampton Airport.
The refuge
On Tuesday, a bobwhite was heard at 8:30 in the field north of Oregon
Road at the corner of Bridge Lane in Southold, Long Island. This is our
go-to place for bobwhite.
Later, around 9 AM at Cedar Beach, a whimbrel was spotted in the marsh
behind the beach. Whimbrels are seen in this marsh
Thursday AM around 8, I dipped on purple sandpipers on jetty south of Hook Pond.
I also dipped on sandhill crane in Wainscot but sun's glare limited visibility.

The sandhill crane flew into the field by Wainscott Pond just past 1PM. The
bird was seen from Main Road which is north of pond. The crane favored the
phragmities at the north end of the pond.

Monk parakeets present on Montauk highway and Wellwood ave by CVS
2 glaucous and Iceland gull at Atlantic Point apartments on rte 16 just past
Brookhaven dump. Iceland on2nd Pond on right; 2 glaucous on last Pond on right
when leaving complex

Largest flock of blackbirds I've ever seen, about 2000-3000 grackles, red wing
blackbirds, cowbirds and starlings on Town Line Road, south of Montauk Highway
where Sagaponick & East Hampton meet. Flock has moved east as I write this

Had about 10 woodcocks displaying in North Fork Preserve in Riverhead, Suffolk
County this evening between 7 and 7:30.

The red headed WP was seen this morning around 8:30 in Sunken Meadow
SP. We were lucky as the bird was very quiet and remain perched in one
place for about 15 min.
Directions:
The main road into SMSP includes a bridge. at the end of the bridge,
there is a road, Naples Road, that leads to
