I think you had a slight issue with the syntax for specifying the optional values. You want this: oiotool -pattern fill:color=0.2,0.3,0.4 128x128 3 -o tmp.exr Also valid is to create an empty image, then execute the fill command on its full extent: oiiotool -create 128x128 3
