Re: [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Permission to Register Patron and Edit Patron
Hello, Thanking you all for prompt help in resolving the problem 1. Permission for register and edit patron is resolved by adding those permissions from the user Permission Editor located on the Admin Tab on the top right portion of the Staff Client. Earlier we tried to add these permissions by opening the staff individual record by F1 Key and also in in Admin -Server Administration-Group Permission Editor. In both cases it does not work. Is it due to any configuration problem in Group Permissions. 2. In the Pull List for Hold Requests, it will display only very few number of holds compared to the actual number of hold requests. How can we rectify the problem. 3. We would like to upgrade to the version from 2.3.7 to either 2.3.11 or 2.4 series. Is it Ok if we install the final version of the Evergreen Software and then upgrade database step by step. Or should we go through each Evergreen version's upgrade instructions like 2.3.7 to 2.3.8 then 2.3.8 to 2.3.9. what is the recommended strategy for the version upgrade. Re: [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Opinions needed on copying patron data to the clipboard
Why not have the confirmation appear inline, next to the link? (It could fade away after several seconds.) This is a fairly common pattern in web apps, though less common in desktop applications. The advantage is that it would provide confirmation without requiring an additional mouseclick. Prior to 2.4, when a user clicked on a link in the patron summary, they would receive an alert confirming that the data had been copied to the clipboard (see attached image). The alert was removed in 2.4 and a bug has been filed on the issue - https://bugs.launchpad.net/evergreen/+bug/1192189. There are pros and cons to removing the confirmation message. The pros of removing the message are that it conforms with wider user interface standards. Basically, you don't receive this kind of confirmation when copying data using CTRL-C or a shortcut menu. The message can also be seen as an annoyance as it requires an additional click. On the con side, it can be somewhat disconcerting to click on that link and not receive a confirmation, leading the user to wonder if the data was really copied. It's uncommon in other software to use underlined text for copying data, and the confirmation message provides a visual cue as to the action that was just taken. Although I filed the original bug report, I have to say I'm on the fence with this issue. However, I do think it's important that the end users who are using the patron editor on a daily basis provide some feedback on this feature. Since I filed the bug, three more people have shown support for restoring the confirmation message. However, if there are people who were happy to see that the message went away, I don't think we would have heard from them in Launchpad because they wouldn't have bothered to take the time to determine if a bug were filed. I thought it would be best to do an informal poll of the community through the general list to see if there is interest in restoring the confirmation message or if people are happy with its removal. I'm hoping we can get a feel of the general consensus through an e-mail thread rather than setting up a formal poll. Let me know what you think! [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Grace Periods
Hi all! I recently found that our system was giving a 1 day grace period on fines. I checked through the Library Settings editor and the recurring fine rules and found that the company that (partially) set up our system did have a one day grace period built in to all our recurring fine rules. I removed it, but the system is still giving folks the grace period. Could this be because the setting was changed after these items were checked out? Thank ~ and happy Friday! Hi Deana, Yes, that is correct. Modifying your circ policies only affects future circulations from that point forward. I'm not entirely sure if this would affect renewals as well, so it may take some time to bleed out all the changes. We encountered a similar issue with having 1 day grace being applied during an upgrade couple years ago. We ultimately ended up changing our policy configuration and then letting it go away naturally. Called it a one time credit for patrons or something like that. :) -- Ben On Fri, Nov 8, 2013 at 9:42 AM, Deana Cunningham deana.cunning...@granvillecounty.org wrote: Hi all! Re: [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Opinions needed on copying patron data, to the clipboard
Title: Sincerely, I think this sounds like the ultimate solution for those who do not like the extra click. It just makes no sense to me (or staff here) to click on something and have nothing happen, so we end up clicking several extra times anyway. I just think there needs to be some type of confirmation.
