Given that this is fixed in 8u25, which is the latest secure version of
JDK 8, these workarounds should no longer be necessary.

Normally, if you install it on 7, then copy the directory on XP, it should work.

Hi,
While not supported u25 should install on WinXP according to Hendrik Stahl.
See https://blogs.oracle.com/henrik/entry/the_future_of_java_on

Java 8 is not supported on WindowsXP, so installing will not work. You can try
copying an installed JDK or JRE directory from a Windows 7 or 8 system and see
if it runs; I had problems with that, but some say it can work.

MS ends support for XP in April of 2014. JDK 8/FX 8 is released in March of
2014.

XP is not supporting multitouch, so as a user keeping XP to use JavaFX is not a
good idea IMO.

Microsoft is dropping Windows XP in 2014, maybe dropping Windows XP on 2014
would be wiser.

Java 9 will not ship before 2014, so Java 8 will be out there at the time that
XP support is dropped by Microsoft.

I think the basic issue is that we can't officially support something that the
vendor is not going to officially support either. If Microsoft moved their
support deadline, we would probably look at doing the same. Oracle has support
contracts with folks and there is no way that we can support so
We only support OSes that are supported by their vendors. Since MS is
finally ending support for XP, so are we.

still be a good move either) than not supporting Windows XP.
That will probably make me stick to Java 7 on a project I'm working on.
