No.
Branded zones run Solaris, but with Linux-lookalike APIs.
Therefore, no Linux kernel, and

So, can I discuss things about Solaris 10

I performed a pkg image-update from os200805 ( snv_86 ? ) to snv_93
and my compilers are gone. In fact all of /opt is gone.
I ended up with *multiple* /opt filesystems from multiple opensolaris revs :
-bash-3.2# zfs list

A couple of questions might help to clarify the best way to get your
answer;
1) What are you trying to achieve;
- developing an application for enterprise deployment on Solaris 10
- personal use
- deploying Solaris 10 in a production environment
2) What do you want as a result of getting to

Yes I have seen this. /opt was set up as a separate file system by the
installation process, and the canmount proterty was set to no (not

Hi all,
Anybody know where to get packages for some common
scientific programs such as:
R + packages
python + packages... numpy, scipy, pylab
fftw
some sort of tex distribution + packages

I had my first exposure to Solaris as an undergrad
working in a computational biology
It is a choice-of-words issue on whether the word abandoning should be used.
But as hartz said, Sun is clearly diverting its resource to OpenSolaris. As to
how bad (as far as Solaris 10 is concerned) the diversion is, that's a
judgement call. Whereas one can point to all these Solaris 10

I am curious - how many people here in these OpenSolaris forums have
OpenSolaris installed on their PCs at home? Or are they mostly discussing
OpenSolaris problems they have at work/school? Does anyone have any idea?

I'm sure there are plenty that do. I know of
OK, let's say there is a fair number of people using OpenSolaris at home for
personal use. But as far as those bugs discussed in the forums here are
concerned, is it fair to say that most of the time these bugs arise out of
work-related problems?
