The best solution is to use star. Star supports real reliable multi-volume
archives
and star supports incremental backups.
Under snv_b112 there is only this for star :

You request them to port over and create a Solaris/OpenSolaris client.
Also you could create a Linux zone , see man pages on zoneadm and zonecfg then
install it in the Linux zone.

I had a issue with snv_b77 fresh install from dvd and opened a bugid of, CR
6648269 P3 nvidia/kernel nvidia fails on GeForce 6200 TurboCache vend
used during installation. However, the bug shows the EDID fails being
read by the NVIDIA driver:

meetcm, Submit a BUG-ID/RFE on your Solaris install, include the
/usr/X11/bin/scanpci -v ,the prtconf -pv outputs and the X logs from /var/log
directory.

So will these changes to libparted make it's way back into the regular
distribution, so your changes will not get lost on new versions?

Try running the command cfgadm -c unconfigure c# and then rerun the cfgadm -c
configure c#, then you rerun your devfsadm -C command? You can run the cfgadm
down to the device level, rather then the controller level, check the man page.
If that does not work, run a dtrace or a truss against
