Sounds like you need to ask firewall administrator to open rsync port to
feed.openvas.org tcp/873

you could try to run the script with e.g.

greenbone-scapdata-sync --selftest

to check if all prerequisites are fulfilled to run it.

Besides that the openvas-setup script (don't confuse with
openvas-check-setup) is not provided by OpenVAS so people here might not
know what it is doing. So it might require that you get some help with
that on the Kali forums.

[Openvas-discuss] OpenVAS Setup

2017-12-07 Thread Douglas Funk
All

I have Kali linux installed and am running into an issue installing OpenVAS.
I run the following commands from a terminal:

Apt-get install openvas. That's ok

Openvas-setup. It hangs at oval/5.10.org.mitre.oval/p/oval.xml. so I Ctrl-c

Then when I do a openvas-check-setup I get No OpenVAS SCAP database found.
Run a SCAP sync script like greenbone-scapdata-sync.

So I run that command and nothing happens.

Thanks for any help. This is my first time with Kali and OpenVAS

the openvas-setup script is no part of the OpenVAS distribution but a
part of Kali Linux. It might be unknown to members at this mailinglist
what the script is actually doing so it could be needed that you get in
touch with the Kali support community at:

2011-07-23 Thread Bill Holder
I had the same issue,

Then I remembered the iptables rules I had in place were
blocking direct internet connections. I was blocking ftp and only allowing
http via an proxy server. So I set the http_proxy environment variable and
used the -wget switch for the rebuild command and all worked well.
