If I was going to go to O'Reilly I would get the CD bookshelf. It comes with the Nutshell in hardcopy I believe. Of course you have to be the type that does not mind reading online (or the type that will print out the book). Their learning book is always included and usually quite good. It is

It may be a mistake to consider yourself a UNIX beginner. You can buy many books aimed at beginners, but they mainly attempt to teach you many commands you can issue from the command line. Even if you're a rank beginner, I'd suggest the book on the Korn Shell from O'Reilly publishing. It's
