[Origami] Choice of an image for Gerardo
Hi Gerardo -- It's a difficult choice. I like "landscape" for it's connection with life outdoors, which so many of us are missing right now. However, I would select "no name" for it's happy brightness. The colors are mood-elevating and the design suggests continuity, a continuing cycle of life, with hopes for the future. Thanks, Serena ///
[Origami] Animals Out of Paper
Thought you might be interested in this excerpt from an email I received asking for contributions. It describes playwright Joseph Rajiv's thoughts about Animals Out of Paper, his wonderful origami-themed play -- seen in NY at the Second Stage theater in 2008 -- and mentions his plans for a sequel. https://drive.google.com/open?id=1VnQRMJqhjufQkt-W06CoxzPAvBEWzrC7 If you are interested, here is a link to the New York Times review of the play. https://www.nytimes.com/2008/08/05/theater/reviews/05anim.html Serena /

Re: [Origami] Permission question
On 9/7/2017 2:10 PM, Andrew Hans wrote: *I am curious then, as to why Origami OUSA has a different opinion . Theyrequire us to get permission from the model designer or the estate ifdeceased in order to teach a model at their convention. Is there someonefrom that organization that cares to comment and offer their perspective onthings?* I'm a member of the convention committee with primary responsibility for setting up the class schedules. A key part of that job is to make sure that teachers have permission from the artists to teach their models. Aside from any legal or copyright issues (covered extensively on the OrigamiUSA website), I believe it's important to show respect for the creators' artistry and hard work. In the 7 or so years I've been working in this area, I've found that most artists are very appreciative of this courtesy. Also, in the spirit of sharing that characterizes so much of what goes on in the origami community, most are very happy to share their designs with the teachers. However, there have been occasions when permission has been denied. So, all in all, it seems judicious, as well as respectful and courteous, to make the effort. Serena //

[Origami] best book for origami beginner
A friend of mine loves origami and is interested in starting to fold. She has no experience and would prefer to start with a basic book rather than classes or individual instruction. I know there are many great books out there designed partly or fully for beginners, but I'd love to hear your suggestions. Thanks Serena/
