I gave it a shot and walked through the tutorials with no errors, besides
this one:

You can always try to package OSCAR for your distribution using oscar-packager.
For that, we may want to read the following documentation:

Thanks! But if I'm looking at this repository correctly, there is only
support for x86_64 at the moment. I was using Debian 5/Lenny on a 32-bit
machine.
Do you know if there is a 32-bit build in the works?

Yes it is possible and actually i updated the configuration files for the base
prereqs so it should be done automatically. I will try to regenerate a new set
of Debian packages within the next hours, you will just need to update your
system (using unstable) and try again.

Does Oscar work with MySQL 5?
I'm installing it onto Debian Lenny. There isn't a package for 4.1 as
oscar-config requires.
I can use the old version if necessary but I thought I would ask the list
first.
