Hay John.

Maybe next year I can get my Miku Miku Dance port to OSG done and I can
entertain the crowd with a singing, dancing figure as a demo. Or would that be
a bit over the top for a technical audience?

Re: [osg-users] SIGGRAPH 2011 OpenSceneGraph BOF

2011-08-18 Thread John Richardson
Hello Jean-Sébastien and David and Robert,

Thanks for presenting [Robert via Jean-Sébastien]. Yes, it was a standing
room only crowd.

Also thanks to Jean-Sébastien for talking at the Computer Graphics for
Simulation BOF that afternoon. There was a possibility that the webinar
[COMSOL multiphysics] I had arranged would experience technical difficulties
and lead to silent conversion of oxygen to carbon monoxide. However, the
webinar proceeded [Jean-Sébastien was able to decipher my speaker connection
drawing to correct acoustic connections].

Maybe a podcast next year..:)

The COMSOL multiphysics talk focused on hard core simulation on a small
scale [example: a room or small machine,...].

Jean-Sébastien's talk was a repeat [extended since he had more time] of the
Vortex simulation SDK and Robot simulations plus examples he talked about in
the OSG BOF. In the OSG BOF he focused more on OSG, OpenGL and compiling and
less on Vortex. This was simulation on a larger scale [a mine, vehicle
dynamics,...] than the standard COMSOL spatial domain. Just look over his
presentation on the wiki and imagine him talking more on the simulation part
of the talk in the OSG BOF. Vortex - check it out

I gave a short Simulation year in review talk that summarized some trends
in research from several simulation conferences. However, I would not have
been able to speak for an hour so thanks again Jean-Sébastien.

The execute bit has to be set manually. Not a horrible issue. The package
also in some cases is a 7zip package so the Mac user has to have Stuffit
Deluxe or WinZip to extract. Perhaps a command line will extract. 7zip is
not on the Mac. Probably needs a tutorial on running the executables from
the terminal command line. We [Jean-Sébastien, David, me] could not figure
out the syntax for the command [path's to be set,,etc.].

I'll check with my Mac build guy about improving this. We're not heavy Mac
users, so
advice is welcomed.

2011-08-16 Thread David Glenn
Greetings all who attended!

I had allot of fun and got allot of my 3.0 questions cleared up.
Thanks for attending J-S and thanks for John for M.C.ing this BOF and the
simulation BOF that I tried to attend before I got interrupted.

Nice to see you all and putting a face on some of you on the Forum.

I hope you all come to SIGGRAPH next year in my neighborhood! L.A. is a fun
town to visit!

FYI: Vancouver was allot of fun too in it's own way! I loved Tim Hortons -
better than McDees!
...

Thank you!

[osg-users] SIGGRAPH 2011 OpenSceneGraph BOF

2011-08-12 Thread Jean-Sébastien Guay

Hello all,

I would like to thank everyone who was able to come to the
OpenSceneGraph BOF this year. I think we had a good turnout, with people
piling up at the door to get a look at some point, and people seemed to
be interested in what we had to present.

I think the addition of a getting started tutorial session at the end
was particularly nice, and I think we'll have to do it again, perhaps
for more platforms, in coming years.

I have a preliminary page up on the wiki where you can download / view
the presentations and videos, as well as download the small example
project that was used in the tutorial I mentioned above.

http://www.openscenegraph.org/projects/osg/wiki/Support/SIGGRAPH2011

Photos and the other presentation (given by David D'Angelo) will be
added as soon as I get them (hint, hint, David and John! :-) ). If I
made any mistakes in names / affiliations either post here or fix them
on the page if you have a wiki login.

If you have any questions about the materials posted there, what went on
at the BOF, or any other related subjects, this is the place to ask!

As a side note, I was not present at last year's BOF, and no one has put
up a page about that one yet. I have started a skeleton, but could
people who presented at Siggraph 2010 please send me their presentations
or just post them on the wiki (if they have a login). Also, if anyone
has photos (I'm looking at you John ;-) ) please send them so I can add
them too.

http://www.openscenegraph.org/projects/osg/wiki/Support/SIGGRAPH2010

Thanks again to all that were present, I had a great time presenting and
meeting all of you. Hope to see even more of you (and perhaps more
presentations, don't be shy, we want to see what you're doing people!)
at Siggraph next year!
