Re: Osmand on Ipad IpadOS 14.3 - Road numbers

2021-02-15 Thread Bart Eisenberg
I don't have an answer. On my iPad Mini running 14.4 and OsmAnd 3.90.2,
using a newly downloaded UK Scotland map (created 1/31/21) and the OsmAnd
style, I'm seeing highway signs. Trying different options in the Map menu,
I can't find a way to hide those signs. The same is true with the
California map (7/30/20).

Re: Lane assistance on circular junctions

2021-02-15 Thread Tom Crocker
Thanks Harry, will do. I just wasn't sure if it was because the lane
tagging was complicated and whether others knew of circulars where it
worked.

Well spotted. That was a bad example! But I see the same at this
 junction
 https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/752088368#map=19/53.83477/-1.65115,
 and this
 https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/663536551#map=19/53.80814/-1.45243,
which I think are both correctly tagged.

 e.g.

But here is lane guidance later on the same route.

I've been looking at the navigation on some junction=circular (big
roundabouts with traffic lights) routes. So far I haven't seen any lane
assistance (although lanes are tagged), just an exit number. Does
 anyone
know if lane assistance ever shows on circulars in osmand? The exit
 number
can be useful for an overview, but can be difficult to interpret when
 small
ways intersect, and is not as handy as lane assistance, especially on
 big
 complicated junctions.

On a related note, does anyone know if osmand uses placement tags
or connectivity relations in working out the lane assistance? I tried
searching GitHub and couldn't find anything, but felt like I wasn't
 looking
 in the right place.

 Thanks

The part in the magenta rectangle is correctly tagged. The "turn:lanes"
 tag contains "through|through|through;right"
The part in the red rectangle misses the "turn:lanes" tag.
Below the OSM edit screen with the road section that misses the tag.

Osmand is an offline navigation app, so what do you mean with "I use
online tiles". I know you can use online tiles for viewing, but I did
not know you could use them for navigating.

So which tiles are you using?
And why? The downloaded vector maps are about 10-20% in size compared
to using online tiles. That has quite some impact on your wifi and
especially on your mobile bandwidth if you use that.

Mr Romberg should look under the OSMAnd menu in the "Download maps"
entry, "local" tab.

I suspect he will find that at some point he has downloaded a map, and
that the 'last change' date shown likely predates his speed limit
changes.

If this is so, then the "updates" tab in the same view will also likely
offer to update the downloaded maps, and if he does that update I
suspect his speed limit fixes will appear for the roads that he has
changed.

Re: Delay in updating road data

2021-02-15 Thread Lennart Romberg
Aha, that explains things. I selected map source = OsmAnd online tiles,
assuming that I would get all latest stuff (for viewing and navigating)
without need for manually downloading anything (paying the price of
frequent dynamic downloads whenever needed) but seems I was wrong.

So I need to periodically download the areas I'm navigating in, right?

route I drove. They were obsolete in OSM so I updated them but when driving
the same route today, 2 months later, the app still shows the old speed

I also added some new roundabouts in OSM. They have shown up in the

So what update frequency to expect? Any relation between the rendered

Delay in updating road data

2021-02-15 Thread Lennart Romberg
In mid-December I noticed that osmand showed wrong speed limits on a route
I drove. They were obsolete in OSM so I updated them but when driving the
same route today, 2 months later, the app still shows the old speed limits.
I assumed they would be refreshed a lot faster.

I also added some new roundabouts in OSM. They have shown up in the osmand
online tiles but the driving directions doesn't say anything about a
roundabout (like "take this or that exit").

So what update frequency to expect? Any relation between the rendered map
and the data (like speed limits) or driving directions? Anything I need to
do actively to refresh the data?

Regards
Lennart

If you look at "Configure screen", either from the menu or one of the

Lane assistance on circular junctions

2021-02-15 Thread Tom Crocker
I've been looking at the navigation on some junction=circular (big
roundabouts with traffic lights) routes. So far I haven't seen any lane
assistance (although lanes are tagged), just an exit number. Does anyone
know if lane assistance ever shows on circulars in osmand? The exit number
can be useful for an overview, but can be difficult to interpret when small
ways intersect, and is not as handy as lane assistance, especially on big
complicated junctions.

On a related note, does anyone know if osmand uses placement tags or
connectivity relations in working out the lane assistance? I tried
searching GitHub and couldn't find anything, but felt like I wasn't looking
in the right place.

Thanks

Download the Android-full version from
https://download.osmand.net/latest-night-build/
Later, I use the Builds button to download and install an update from
within OSMAnd

You are correct, that is not OK. However your anger is being directed
at the wrong entity. OSMAnd is not "including Google spy software".
OSMAnd is simply playing withing the rather strict rules set out by
 Google.

Google has been restricting access to everything on Android, and
funneling everything, more and more, through Google Play Services with
each update they make to Android. And access to GPS data is but one of
the data sets that Google has been restricting in this way on Android.
This is the reason for the existance of the microG project
(https://microg.org/), an attempt to provide an alternative access
point for those same API's but without including the google spy machine
 in the process.

It is not OSMAnd's fault that in order to run on a standard Android
base (which is what, but for the select few, all Android phones run)
that Google requires that they make use of the google play services
component. Google has forced that upon them. You should direct your
anger at Google, not at OSMAnd.

Re: Osmand on Ipad IpadOS 14.3 - Road numbers

2021-02-15 Thread Tim Kendal
Thanks! You are onto something there, but it's not the same on my
installation. I have 9 Map Styles to choose from and only one of these,
LightRS, shows road numbers. OsmAnd, and the others, do not.

I don't really like LightRS, and it has only 7 "Map Style" options compared
to 9 with the default OsmAnd Map Type. One of the MapStyle options I use
is Road Style, and I often switch from the default to "German Road Atlas"
as in certain situations it is clearer. But I can't do this when using
LightRS as the Style, as Road Style is not available!

I'm sure this has all changed recently, though I can't be sure when the
change took place. It does seem strange that the default, OsmAnd Map Style
does not now have road numbers, and I'm sure that it used to include them!

Again, thanks for your interest
