Github Discussions as a new Forum - Welcome

2021-02-16 Thread V S

Hi all,

I think it's time to move on from https://groups.google.com/g/osmand to
Github Discussions - https://github.com/osmandapp/OsmAnd/discussions/.
Actually we already did it for last 3 years, I think.

Most of our conversations is already happening in Github Issues. Sometimes
we need to indicate that's not a bug and it's a rather discussion,
exploring new ideas or something more like a question.

Discussions is not a documentation! For that purpose we've created
https://docs.osmand.net/en and trying to contribute daily improving our
documentation. Though even initial documentation will take 3-6 months, it
will not replace sharing ideas and discussing internals process. In the end
best from our discussions should come to Documentation eventually.

Welcome to Discussions,
Victor

Re: What's up with map updates?

2019-06-17 Thread V S
All maps are updated now. Please use OsmAnd Live subscription and you will
get incremental map updates every hour.
Our full generation map update is becoming more complicated and this month
it was delayed by 5 days because of hardware issues though it is expected
that it could take 2-3 weeks and maps of 1st/XX/20YY will be produced at
20/XX/20YY

Re: Raster map in iOS 2.0.1

2017-12-31 Thread V S
I need to check whether it is supported properly. Please try to install a
normal folder-map via app, probably it is an hidden limitation.

Re: OsmAND+ licence check (Amazon)

2017-06-22 Thread V S
We will investigate what we can do from our side. We set explicitly that we
don't want that check or validation (may be it gets reverted), we will also
try to reach Amazon support to get it off.

AFAIK OsmAnd does not use a license check, if Google Play is used.

 Amazon is different here.
Developers can only decide, if license should be checked or not, but
AFAIK it is not possible to influence how the license check is done.
AFAIK the only option to prevent this Amazon license check issue, is to
remove the Amazon license check completly.
I think this would be a good decision.

Re: What happened to the OsMo plugin?

2017-03-15 Thread V S
Hi

OsMo plugin was always a "separate plugin". OsMo company has very few to do
with OsmAnd. Unfortunately lately OsmAnd developers were very busy with
core functionality and didn't manage to migrate to OsMo new API. Old OsMo
API is quite unstable.

The intention is to move OsMo plugin mostly to OsMoDroid and keep OsmAnd as
a plugin integration. OsmAnd doesn't have immediate plans to replicate OsMo
functionality and OsmAnd has API for remote tracking so it could be
integrated with other services as well.

Victor

Re: OSM Live website/payment issues

2016-10-19 Thread V S
Hi,

1. Download page is fixed and now returns proper json to downoad (error was
related that this is not an html page).
2. You are right, we don't pay to invalid address (I believe we contacted
the person to change it) and we can't pay small payments cause the payment
system doesn't allow.
We made a decision to keep "unpaid" payment for the next month, that's why
we always round up the number of BTC we've got from subscriptions. We might
need to properly document or change the automatic payment algorithm, so the
sum from all regions will be added to the world region.
Anyway if you find something we missed not a small payment, please let us
know so we could double check how did it happen.

3. We have a strong cache algorithms behind it, cause the page is too heavy
to load (we update information every 5 minutes). And also for detail
investigation it is advised to use JSON file and UI to use to check details
of 1-10 items. We keep it sorted in order to search information quicker on
UI.

Best Regards,
Victor

Supposed to be fixed in 2.4 (released last week), please double check that

Changes in OSM Live Program

2016-08-17 Thread V S
Hi All,

First of all number, we've updated the web page osm
live http://osmand.net/osm_live to make it fully transparent and easy to
use. As you could see number of people supporting OSM Live grows.

Second major change we changed percent distribution between partie.

*After Google and Bank deductions the whole sum is split into 2 parts (50%
OsmAnd and 50% Donations)*

That roughly means *30-40% *of each spent EUR on OSM Live by end user
(excluding VAT) will go back to OSM community.

The change is mostly related to the way we want to continue distribute
OsmAnd itself. In our plans to bring more focus to the user that's buying
OsmAnd+ is not the only option to support our team. So we would like to get
more people getting subscription on OsmAnd free version itself. That means
in the end we will have more users donating to OSM itself via OSM Live.

Best Regards,
Victor Shcherb
