If you can install an additional (external) SD card, OSMAnd can put its
offline maps there.

That one makes me choose between offline or 'only car', and I want to use a
bike... so I'll guess I have to download after all. Don't know if my phone
is up to that...

Okay thanks. That's surprising - I thought the most updated map would be
the one online! I wonder if my phone can hold all those map data, my space
is limited, but I'll try.

Erik, yes, you _can_ use the online map features for routing. However,
first please understand that the online map services are separate
organizations from OsmAnd, and
BTW, I really suggest the osmand offline service, just try both and decide on
your own

Thanks. HOw do I use the OSMR service? I have 'online maps' set to Enabled,
but that's probably not enough? I can't find a setting that says 'osmr'.

It can work both, offline with the osmand service or online with the osmr
service.
The ofline osmand service is the default and it needs downloaded maps, you
could set osmand to use the OSMR online service, wich doean't need downloaded
maps and works online in
No, I ignored messages about downloading maps, because I wanted to use the
online map. I have unlimited data, and Play Store says it should work both
online and offline.

Do I have to download maps? Why? Can't I simply use the world map online?

Just to discard things, in case you are just using the World map:
Have you downloaded the map for the city/country you want?

That's strange.
Just try to change
Settings - > Navigation Settings
There select a profile and change the
'stay on road' setting.

I just installed Osmand, but I can't use navigation. I am in a town, the map
shows my exact location, but all I am getting is 'can't start navigation. Too
far from nearest road'. Apparently, navigation can't see the roads that are on
the map. What can I do?
