Funny you should ask that right now. We have two mum's in care with
previous 4th degree tears.
( One of these happened a couple of years ago while under my care - as
prime with large baby but no other concerns, just happened. I had two in

Sue this stuff really scares
me. I don't know what business a nurse in an incontinence clinic has
recommending major abdominal surgery, with it's attendant risks which are far
greater than vaginal birth. If I were the nurse, I'd be saying, "Have you
thought about having a home birth? Those
Does this mean that these women are all working
around with faecal incontinence? or does this mean that the 3rd degree tears
that are concealed not mean anything. If they are concealed how do they
find them? I am bamboozled by all this stuff!!

Hi again,
I also forgot to add that the nurse practitioner also stated that an
episiotomy rate of 10-15% for birth was justified and there was only
'soft evidence' for promoting tears over episiotomies.
I do fully intend to follow this with a research search.
For those of you who have
What
is this woman on about? Is she talking about post vaginal wall
tears? I think they are more likely to cause long term problems.

Yes Sue, that is scary stuff indeed.
Makes me think that manufacturers of incontinence products will be delighted.
Those statistics are appalling. Think how many people will need theses
products based on the information below! You know 1 in 3
women over the age of 35 who have had a baby
