Hey All,
Yesterday at about 2-3pm SharePoint just started displaying 404 errors
for everyone on the main application website (port 80). No changes to
sharepoint or its database had been made at all yesterday.
I have restored a backup of the SharePoint server from the weekend and

Is it only the main portal? (ie Can you still access the admin site etc)

Yes, only the main portal.
I can still access the admin site.
We don't have any firewals, ISA, SSL installed. I cannot even access the
site from the server itself browsing loopback ip / localhost.

I can't remember if it's a 404 error that is thrown when the application pools
aren't running.
Ken,
Check the application pool's for the website, also check the application pool
accounts. IIS6 or IIS7.5?
Cheers
Chris

I had the same problem when I installed a hot fix a while ago. Can't
remember how I fixed it. The way I fixed it was:
stsadm -o provisionservice -action stop -servicetype spwebservice
-servicename
stsadm -o provisionservice -action start -servicetype spwebservice
-servicename
psconfig
Forcing an in-place build to build upgrade may not be the way forward
here... just be careful with this type of thing. I'd suggest scoping out
IIS thoroughly first, before attempting this type of thing. And if you do,
make sure you've got a reliable set of backups first.
To me, it does sound

A couple of simple things which can sometimes be overlooked.
Ø Make sure your service accounts aren't locked out.
Ø Make sure you have adequate disk space.

Have you resolved the URL to check the IP address it is trying to reach?
I've seen issues where a server had a dynamic IP but the URL was mapped to a
static IP.

Hi all,
We have a WFE which is acting up and suspect it was never added properly to the
farm. It's been suggested that dropping it and then adding it again properly
may resolve our issues.
The server is fully accessible so I was planning on using psconfig for this
task.
Can anyone confirm
Has anyone been able to DOWLOAD the CUs?? Or provide an alternate link?
